"It is our function as artists to make the spectator to see the world our way, attempt to make art more than just something to look at, we want it to be something to be involved in, something too big to ignore."

Back again. Say goodbye 2010.

A new beginning from an end.
The things I did in 2010.

#1. I did hair. Lots of it.

For more than half the year you could easily find me at my home away from home, Hairpolice, making locks longer and more beautiful by the minute.
One change in 2011 is that I will for the first time in my life work there 3-4 days a week as to make room for more fashion and domestic projects I have up my sleeve. Look for jewelry and accessories on the horizon!

#2. I did freelance shoots and shows.

For the fun of it and to build my portfolio I took part in photo shoots, shows and fashion competitions. I styled, designed, coifed, and made up some beauties, and even had a different rendition from this shoot on a billboard in Uptown for the Lyndale Tap House.

#3. I designed a RTW line.

This was my first ready to wear line for Oishiimomo. I typically do more couture stylings, but it was fun to make some more wearable pieces for the I Feel Love show. Look at older posts in my blog to read more about that line and show.

#4. I got my own piece of NY in MN.

This little morsel drove all 20+ hours from The Big Apple to The Minapple to shack up with lil' ol' me on December 24th 2009. The poor thing even had to shovel within the first few hours of her arrival to this frozen tundra. I'm a lucky girl to have her close by every single day. Long distant relationships can suck it!! (lol)

#5. I got engaged!

Well, we got as close as we could to legally get married in the state by signing our domestic partnership papers and getting some very nice promise rings. Now as we all know that doesn't equal the same thing as an actual heterosexual marriage in MN, but we're doing the best we can so far We have started planning the actual wedding which is incredibly exciting for me! :) This will be the biggest style event of my LIFE!! I have even picked out my engagement/wedding ring and ordered my shoes already, which I will feature in my next blog.

So 2010 was pretty eventful for me, and 2011 doesn't look too shabby so far! Here's to wishing you all a fashionable and prosperous New Year and hoping mine will be too! XO to all of you!

I even dream about jewelry...

I just had a dream where I was given a black velvet box with a pair of small gold looped earrings in it, each had a dark polished stone dangling from it and were priced at $100. When I looked closer into the stone you could faintly see that there was a tiny silvery human skeleton crouched in fetal position in each one. They were suppose to be ancient and to have special powers. It was the coolest find and I bought them immediately. Now as I wake up I do find this to be very macabre in nature but still amazingly creative and unique, even if it was just a dream.

Also I remember seeing all sorts of other jewelry around, some of which was made of colorful paperclips set into intricate flower and almost damask looking designs for statement necklaces, bracelets, belts, and earrings. I used to make jewelry out of such things for fun as a kid, I wouldn't be surprised to find this actually out making a debut in a Marc by Marc Jacobs show next S/S. I almost feel compelled to make some myself!

I'm starting to feel the love.

Just a small preview:

The first pic is one of our favorite models, Mary C. from Vision in my dress from our promo photo shoot last week. (these photos were taken with my Blackberry so sorry if they are a bit fuzzy.) The other two pics are the prints that were designed by Angie Hanson aka HautePants (not for long) and printed by Ken Hannigan of Anthem Heart for my line "Love Monster" that will be shown at our show "I Feel Love" on June 12th @ the MN fashion space in NE Mpls.

I have no other life other than working on this show after hours and making people beautiful at Hairpolice during the day. I really hope it all pays off! Keep your heads up and eyes open and prepare for I Feel Love!!

Transformation

Well hello there.

It's been ages.

I have realized that things are changing. I know I keep repeating this, but I really haven't recognized this person that has emerged from the wreckage. I have made a transformation. Came out of the proverbial cocoon if you will. And I am becoming a beautifully color saturated butterfly. Not the drab moth dancing in a world of vivid hues as I imagined my myself in the years past.

Today I wake up with the urge to make heart shaped pancakes for my boo while listening to Au Revoir Simone and loving the early morning sunlight on my face. I don't get inspired by the darkness of my crisp navy taffeta or lush black velvet fabric remnants thrown about my sewing studio. I find myself shopping at Anthropology before Hot Topic, buying fancy things like antique wall hooks and sparkling hourglasses and I drool over tiny cotton sleeveless dresses adorned with snaps and grommets lacquered in red and pink. I close my eyes and I can see the perfect pair of red-orange kitten heels that I must have to complete the ensemble.

It's strange, I can't even imagine the places to don the dark couture costumey creations I have made in the past. I can only conjure up the art openings and dinner parties that the new conceptions of my new mind bring to me. I see the colors: yellow, red, pink, peach, lilac, beige, white and light gray. These will be modeled by fashionable ladies accessorized by vintage purses and frou frou hair pieces. This is a world that is new to me. Like Alice crossing through to the looking glass, is this imaginary or real? Will it all disappear in blink of an eye like so many other fleeting images have passed through my cerebellum? All I know is that I am delighted by this universe of iridescence and it seems that love might have been the catalyst; thank you Liza.

So yes, LOVE, love has conquered the shadows of the past, along with age.... I think I have finally moved on.... to a new domain... prepare for ready to wear.
